Smart Book

Smart Girls Do Dumbells: Develop the Leanest, Healthiest, Sexiest Body You've Ever Had in 30 Minutes 30 Days 30 Ways

By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I've had a very attractive set of pastel-hued dumbbells sitting in the corner gathering dust for years now. On a recent shopping trip I was utterly horrified to see myself in the changing room mirror - flab and sag all round - not a pretty site. Time then, I surmised, to dust off my dumbbells and tone up my weak and weedy body.

Of course, having a set of dumbbells at your disposal and actually knowing what you're supposed to do with them are two entirely different things. Joining a gym is my idea of going straight to hell (and I couldn't possibly afford it anyway) so I was very happy indeed to discover "Smart Girls Do Dumbbells", which specifically sets out to show you how to workout in the comfort (and convenience) of your own home with little more than a set of cheap dumbbells.

The book gets straight down to business in a no-nonsense, friendly and non-threatening way. It is specifically written for women (of all ages and fitness levels) and the author's "Smart Girls" philosophy is encouraging and motivational without being irritating or twee. She has over twenty years experience as a Personal Trainer and you very much feel that you are in a safe pair of hands. There is no hype and, thankfully, no glossy images of impossibly toned, glamourous bodies to make you feel inadequate.

Just good sound advice and an easy-to-use, well-designed fitness regime that aims to help you tone and shape all the major areas of the body, including tums and bums, thighs, arms, back and chest. Each exercise is thoroughly described, paying particular attention to detail to ensure you perform each move with proper form and technique. Sensible questions are asked and answered authoritatively and you are left feeling that you really can achieve your goals in a realistic way. All-in-all highly recommended.

3 Factors To Consider Before Buying an Adjustable Dumbbell Set

York Family Dumbbell Weight Set and Stand

By Milo A Martinovich
Nobody is questioning the benefits of an adjustable dumbbell set. They save you time and space by eliminating usual dumbbell sets. In all honesty, an adjustable set adds so much flexibility to every exercise gym. In general, dumbbells are one of the greatest ways to exercise. They bring usefulness and variety where other equipment can't. You may be having troubles picking the right set that will work the greatest for you. This article can help you locate the set you want by looking at 3 various features.
Speed of Weight Change
You should be able to adjust the weight on a good set quite rapidly. If you cannot change the weight setting on your dumbbells in the time it would take to put down regular dumbbells and pick up another set, then that adjustable dumbbell set is too sluggish. They should make conventional dumbbells look inadequate. If they are slower, why have them? Various companies utilize unique ways to switch weights on adjustable dumbbells. The Powerblock models possess a pin system to change the weight of each dumbbell. The Bowflex SelectTech models utilize a dial on each side of the dumbbell to adjust the weight.

Adjustable dumbbells have came a long way and a large amount of them adjust weights with no trouble. Changing the weights might be easy but the speed is diverse between several models. If you want dumbbells for cardio, you will want dumbbells that switch weights rapidly to restrict the amount of break time. If you struggle to switch the weight on your dumbbell, it will eliminate the intensity. When strength training, the rate of the weight change probably isn't essential at all. In that case, you just have to make sure that you acquire a set that has a reliable and strong hold on the weights after you switch.

Stand
Many adjustable dumbbell sets have racks that you can buy individually. Do you really need a rack? If you have a bad back, a rack is most likely something you will require. You might also want a rack if you are someone who lifts a lot of weight since it might be awkward to pick heavy dumbbells up off the ground. Various sets come with a stand also. Make sure to add the expense of the rack of every model in your exploration and comparisons.

Poundage Settings
This could be the most important factor for purchasing an adjustable dumbbell set. Obviously you will want more weight if you are exceedingly strong. If you can't lift as much as most people, you will clearly require a lighter set. There are models for anybody in between as well. Identifying your fitness goal will ultimately help you choose what weight settings you will need with an adjustable dumbbell set.

The Advantages Of Adjustable Dumbbells - The Problems With Regular Dumbbells

Confidence PRO 25kg/55lbs Dumbbell Weights Set

By Darren Ang
So what's wrong with using regular free weights at home? Nothing if you got a lot of room or you can afford them. Even the basic set of dumbbells takes up two full walls of space in a room.

That's the beauty of adjustable dumbbells. Because of their innovative adjustable weight system we can take a whole rack of dumbbells and transform them into just one adjustable dumbbell. So you have a free weight system that maybe takes up 1/10 the space of regular free weights and it helps you save money too.

I personally have a pair of regular dumbbells. Both are 7kgs (15.4 lbs) dumbbells, they both cost around US $66. The problem with them is that I've used them for my workouts for about a month or so. Through time, I began to gain muscle mass; thus I'm able to carry heavier weights.

For me, I want to gain muscles. I want to get my ideal body, and for me to do that I have to get heavier weights to continue my workouts, because using just one set of weights I will never grow bigger from it after reaching a certain point. For people to gain mass, they have to increase the weights they use, from one point to another.

So I have to buy a new set of new weights like maybe a 8-10kgs (17-22 lbs) set, and it is going to cost me more than the 7kgs ones, because regular weights are like this, the heavier, the more expensive it is.

I had to go down to the gym every now and then, because the 7kg dumbbells at home are useless to me for that particular muscle group that I'm working on,because its too light.
The gym Is always so packed with people. It's embarrassing to workout with all the big and muscular people in the gym carrying weights twice as heavy as mine!

I think every beginner prefers working out at home just like me!

So why not buy an adjustable dumbbell, a free weight system?

That I can change to the desired weights, whenever I want!

It's genius! They have weights up to 2.27 kg to 23.8 kg (5 to 52.5 lbs). Most importantly, they both feel the same. Now I don't have to go to a local sports shop to get another set of regular weights every time. I'm able to carry heavier weights!
So let's summarize the advantages of having adjustable dumbbells.
- Save Space
- Save Money
- Save time
- Very Convenient
I just found out this adjustable dumbbells thing not long ago. It saved me a lot of time and money.

Do Not be Put off by Negative Criticism!

By J P Falcon
Ok, here's the truth as I have no agenda to either endorse or kill this product: I allowed myself to get a bit out of shape and as I have finally turned the corner and making marked improvements in my diet and physique, I noticed that my upper arms were flabby, and I allowed them to become weak. I was skeptical of this product, but I decided to give it a try. When I did the first 6 minute workout, I managed to breeze through it, and I foolishly believed I was in better shape than I thought.

The next day however proved me wrong, as I found the repetition of the routine actually became harder. I also discovered that I did indeed have a weak arm which could not match the other. I felt the burn and fatique after the 6 minute exercise program each time I did it. But then, by week three, I found myself doing the 6 minute program 2 or 3 times a day, and though I was still not breezing through it as I did on day 1, I was managing to complete the entire program. I also was doing some added reps on my weak arm and I have managed to balance the two.

Now, after a month I am not going to say that I was suddenly ripped, of course not, but I did notice something. At a moment when I was simply soaping my upper arms, I discoverd that they were more "solid" and "tight" than they were a few short weeks prior. Let's face it, you know your own body, so when you discover a change, without even consciously looking for one, you become a bit startled.

Well, I was, and realized that there was some definite toning to my arms. I am also moving the shake weight harder than I was thus increasing my strength, and trying new routines.

So, having the product now for about two months, I continue my three 6 minute a day routine and am feeling much better doing it. I have found that it is a great motivator and one of the few weight regimens that is not boring.

After all, if you cannot spare at least 6 minutes of your day doing this program, then what do you want to do?
Highly Recommended...........

Buying Tips For A Dumbbell Weight Set

By Allan Wu
Amateur fitness enthusiasts often have no idea where to start with their program. If you are one of them, this article might help you in organizing your thoughts about buying dumbbells. Like some articles would put it, purchasing your first dumbbell sets can be a quite daunting task. Even when you search online about the different topics in weight lifting, they do not seem to help you. In fact, you might even end more confused about the dumbbells. If you are serious in starting your own fitness center, read these few tips and tricks to help you get the perfect dumbbell set for you.

Tip #1: Choose Between the Adjustable and the Fixed Type Dumbbell
When it comes to buying dumbbells, everything will only boil down to two types, the adjustable and the fixed hexagonal dumbbell. Despite the countless numbers of dumbbells including design and manufacturers, keep in mind that there are only two types to choose from. The adjustable dumbbell adjusts according to your weight requirement. The weights come in varying pound increments to fit your strength level. For instance, starters can lift only the lightest weights and gradually progress with heavier loads as you feel stronger.

When you need to move to a higher level, you simply have to unscrew the lock, fit in your desired load and screw it back. With other manufacturers, changing of weights can only be done with few clicks. If you compare the adjustable with the fixed type dumbbells, the latter cannot be adjusted. They only offer the same weight all throughout. Thus, you need to buy a new set each time you move with the next level of your training program.

Tip #2: Stick with your Purpose and Budget
When you check the online articles about dumbbells, you must first set your purpose and stick to your budget. This is because the different advertisements in the net can easily entice you with their product offerings. When you set your purpose, it will help you choose between the fixed and adjustable dumbbell. If you are serious with your weight training program, it is advisable that you get the adjustable type. This will prevent you from buying new sets each time you improve your strength level. For instance, you can begin with the smallest weights and move to an increment of 5 pounds with your weight lifting training. In due time, you can produce more muscle bulk and achieve a toner and bigger body. However, if you intend to use the dumbbells only in toning your muscles and you do not intend to use it for tournament purposes, the fixed hex dumbbell sets are good investments. Because they are more affordable, they can surely fit any amount of budget.

Tip #3: Determine your Space
Another important consideration when buying your dumbbells would be the amount of space you have at home. For fixed hex dumbbells, you need more space to accommodate them all. But if you are only renting a room or a small apartment, you should go for the adjustable dumbbells. Each set can replace up to nine fixed dumbbells.

4 Benefits of Owning an Adjustable Dumbbell Set

Dumbbell weights set / dumbell kit / dumbell pair 30 kg / muscle training / bodybuilding / workout / gym

By Dane Millen
Pretty much everyone has heard of adjustable dumbbells these days. They come in a few different styles and brands with PowerBlock and BowFlex SelecTech being two of the most popular brands.
No matter which brand you choose to buy, there are some great benefits to having this kind of dumbbell set in your workout room.

Below are a few of the biggest benefits of owning these dumbbells.

One of the biggest benefits of adjustable dumbbells is the cost savings.

They literally take the place of a dozen or so individual dumbbells. If you individually purchased all the dumbbells at five pound increments that equaled one set of adjustable dumbbells, you'd be floored at what you'd have to spend. Depending on which set you're looking at, they essentially replace (in the case of PowerBlocks) 9 pairs or 18 fixed dumbbells that would have a combined weight of 450 lb.

Space savings
The next huge benefit is the space savings. If you have vast amounts of room and space isn't a concern, you'll still enjoy how compact they are. However, if you live in an apartment or a condo and room is a big factor for you, adjustable dumbbells will be perfect for you. Depending on which set you get, if you have a couple square feet you'll have all the room necessary for storage. A small space in the closet also works well if you want them out of the way.

Home workouts
If you'd prefer not to go to the gym, but still want several weight combinations to choose from, (without having to have an entire weight rack lined up along the wall) these dumbbells are definitely for you. You won't have to wait for a machine, have people watch you workout, or have a ton of weights in your house.

In addition, since they allow for a pretty simple way to change the amount of weight desired, you can easily use them in conjunction with many of the workout programs that are on the market, such as P90X.

Portable
Dovetailing with the point above, if you'd like to workout with a friend, you can easily load these dumbbells into the back seat of your car, or in the trunk and take them with you. Just be careful when loading them as to avoid back injury.
