Smart Book

Smart Girls Do Dumbells: Develop the Leanest, Healthiest, Sexiest Body You've Ever Had in 30 Minutes 30 Days 30 Ways

By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I've had a very attractive set of pastel-hued dumbbells sitting in the corner gathering dust for years now. On a recent shopping trip I was utterly horrified to see myself in the changing room mirror - flab and sag all round - not a pretty site. Time then, I surmised, to dust off my dumbbells and tone up my weak and weedy body.

Of course, having a set of dumbbells at your disposal and actually knowing what you're supposed to do with them are two entirely different things. Joining a gym is my idea of going straight to hell (and I couldn't possibly afford it anyway) so I was very happy indeed to discover "Smart Girls Do Dumbbells", which specifically sets out to show you how to workout in the comfort (and convenience) of your own home with little more than a set of cheap dumbbells.

The book gets straight down to business in a no-nonsense, friendly and non-threatening way. It is specifically written for women (of all ages and fitness levels) and the author's "Smart Girls" philosophy is encouraging and motivational without being irritating or twee. She has over twenty years experience as a Personal Trainer and you very much feel that you are in a safe pair of hands. There is no hype and, thankfully, no glossy images of impossibly toned, glamourous bodies to make you feel inadequate.

Just good sound advice and an easy-to-use, well-designed fitness regime that aims to help you tone and shape all the major areas of the body, including tums and bums, thighs, arms, back and chest. Each exercise is thoroughly described, paying particular attention to detail to ensure you perform each move with proper form and technique. Sensible questions are asked and answered authoritatively and you are left feeling that you really can achieve your goals in a realistic way. All-in-all highly recommended.

Buying Tips For A Dumbbell Weight Set

By Allan Wu
Amateur fitness enthusiasts often have no idea where to start with their program. If you are one of them, this article might help you in organizing your thoughts about buying dumbbells. Like some articles would put it, purchasing your first dumbbell sets can be a quite daunting task. Even when you search online about the different topics in weight lifting, they do not seem to help you. In fact, you might even end more confused about the dumbbells. If you are serious in starting your own fitness center, read these few tips and tricks to help you get the perfect dumbbell set for you.

Tip #1: Choose Between the Adjustable and the Fixed Type Dumbbell
When it comes to buying dumbbells, everything will only boil down to two types, the adjustable and the fixed hexagonal dumbbell. Despite the countless numbers of dumbbells including design and manufacturers, keep in mind that there are only two types to choose from. The adjustable dumbbell adjusts according to your weight requirement. The weights come in varying pound increments to fit your strength level. For instance, starters can lift only the lightest weights and gradually progress with heavier loads as you feel stronger.

When you need to move to a higher level, you simply have to unscrew the lock, fit in your desired load and screw it back. With other manufacturers, changing of weights can only be done with few clicks. If you compare the adjustable with the fixed type dumbbells, the latter cannot be adjusted. They only offer the same weight all throughout. Thus, you need to buy a new set each time you move with the next level of your training program.

Tip #2: Stick with your Purpose and Budget
When you check the online articles about dumbbells, you must first set your purpose and stick to your budget. This is because the different advertisements in the net can easily entice you with their product offerings. When you set your purpose, it will help you choose between the fixed and adjustable dumbbell. If you are serious with your weight training program, it is advisable that you get the adjustable type. This will prevent you from buying new sets each time you improve your strength level. For instance, you can begin with the smallest weights and move to an increment of 5 pounds with your weight lifting training. In due time, you can produce more muscle bulk and achieve a toner and bigger body. However, if you intend to use the dumbbells only in toning your muscles and you do not intend to use it for tournament purposes, the fixed hex dumbbell sets are good investments. Because they are more affordable, they can surely fit any amount of budget.

Tip #3: Determine your Space
Another important consideration when buying your dumbbells would be the amount of space you have at home. For fixed hex dumbbells, you need more space to accommodate them all. But if you are only renting a room or a small apartment, you should go for the adjustable dumbbells. Each set can replace up to nine fixed dumbbells.
